5Its as good as it gets!

This tool must be the greatest wood working secret in the world! I learned about it in a wood-finishing book. The scraper is to sandpaper what a word processor is to a typewriter. When sharpened properly, the scraper smoothes wood faster and better than sandpaper ever will. Learning to sharpen the scraper is easy. You just need a vise, an 8″ mill file and a burnishing tool (which I highly recommend you purchase). Youtube has several clips showing how to sharpen a scraper. The scrapers are high quality steel and are made in England.

4Great entry level set for this versatile inexpensive tool
By G. Conner
If you know about scrapers, and need a set with curves, then this is a decent set to own.
The steel has consistent grain structure so it takes and hold a good edge. That’s not too surprising since Crown is making these from the same steel stock that they use in their back-saws.

Like ALL cabinet scrapers, you need to spend some time refining the edges and turning a bur.
You only need a flat file, some sandpaper, a vice and a burnisher to do that, although I have found diamond stones are very helpful when truing the edges.

Crown makes a decent burnisher for about $20. If you don’t want to spend money on a burnisher, then use an old solid carbide router bit, chucked into a wood-block. I find that carbide burnishers work better than any other, and since I make mine out of spent router bits, they cost essentially nothing. (nothing extra that is)

Some say that you can use a screwdriver to burnish scrapers. I can assure you that that is NOT true, UNLESS you have a very old and very good screwdriver made of VERY HARD steel.

Files are very hard, but unless you have one with a smooth rounded “safe” edge, I wouldn’t recommend files for burnishing.

The price for this three-piece set is very reasonable. My only complaint is that the scrapers are a trifle thin. That can be an advantage when flexing the scraper to fit a cove molding or rounded edge. But it is a distinct disadvantage for those with little experience sharpening a scraper. Thicker scrapers are just easier to turn a bur on, so woodworking newcomers might consider getting a Bahco scraper instead.

However, if you already know about card scrapers, and you need some curved ones for certain jobs, then this is a bargain.

5Scraper set
By love2sew
Gave this as a Christmas gift and husband loves it. He was looking for one and it cost as much as this set. Very nice, thank you.
