Plastic shims By Copley Jim I have seen the plastic horseshoe shims used in construction and initially that’s what I was looking for. When I stumbled upon these, I thought I’d try them around the house. I am not disappointed. They can be used connected for a larger need or separated for smaller needs. I’d say 5 stars for this product for most uses in the residential arena, but there still is need for the horseshoe style for larger projects.

Excellent product! Much better than wood shims. By Zoltan Korossy I’ve used standard wood shims for a long time, and never liked that it was a ramp supporting the load. If you think about it, it’s a very thin line supporting the load. These shims are flat, and therefore distribute the weight much more evenly. The exact thicknesses also made it easier to figure what what I needed and where. That said, it can take longer to do than with wood shims since it takes time to find the perfect combination of shim thicknesses, but the end result is much better and highly worth it.
They’re also unaffected by water and moisture.
These were used to install my new kitchen cabinets, and I will absolutely be using them from now on.

Very useful product By J. Mayer Within a week of purchasing these shims I started finding uses for them. My wife has a potting bench that has an uneven leg. Tried a 1/8 shim, still wobbled; tried an 1/8 plus a 1/16th…maybe too much. A 1/8 plus a 1/32, perfect- its solid as a rock. They even have a nice countersink built in so it’s easy to screw them in place without the screw head adding to the shim.
You can cut them up and turn 1 into 3 or 4 if you need to. You can use them on a planer sled to keep a cupped board from deflecting and use your planer like a jointer.
