3Black & Decker Brain Fart

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RE8RSZV2VVNPP The Bright Bar makes a single bright spot and you must constantly reposition it to see your work. If you hang it by the hook, wouldn’t you expect it to kind of light up the area? Nope. It projects a spot on the wall. On the bright side, it is nice and bright and tough and water-resistant. But I plan to return it. The “Bright Bar 360″ seems like it would work 100 times better for me.

2Flawed – and overpriced…
By EagleCroft
I’m a big fan of LED illumination, and have several flashlights that use this technology. I received the B&D SLB26B recently as a gift and was excited to use it. I have an incadescent shop light which I have always used to “light up” what I am working on. This product had the potential to be a home run – but it misses the mark I’m afraid and doesn’t knock it out of the park. The biggest issue I have with it is that the battery life is way too short. LED’s don’t draw much energy and after a short period of time the LED’s begin to dim far to quickly. I have a cheapo LED lantern I bought at a drugstore with 20 LED’s in it, which run off 3-D batteries. That thing cost me all of 10 bucks and it outshown, and outlasted the B&D which costs 5 times as much. The next issue I have with the B&D is that the light is hardly directional. There is a mirrored reflector around the LED’s but it just doesn’t do the job very well. Going back to the cheap $10 lantern I bought from the drugstore, that has a swivel head and can be positioned much more effectively and puts out much more light than the B&D does. Next gripe I have is the hook on top of the light broke and fell off when it tipped over on the cement floor of my garage. What a joke, this thing should be made to take abuse and a simple tipping over does in the hook – arguably one of the more important features of the worklight. Which brings about my last gripe I’ll make, the design makes it very tipsy and it tends to fall over easily. I’d hang it up therefore to avoid tipping over, but alas the hook broke…
In Summary:
Pros – neat looking design
Cons – poorly constructed, short battery life, doesn’t throw enough light.

Thumbs down… Come’on B&D – you can do better than this!

5SPOT ON!
By surfs_up_today
I just ordered my second Bright Bar. I just read all the reviews and they are spot on….including the negatives. This is a close up task light that give direction from about a 6″ span of led’s. Perfect for close up work, like automotive and boats…and all those house projects. The span of 6″ of light is what is so cool about it. I noticed the Audi dealer mechanics had a portable 6″ bar light looking under a lifted car…not this model…don’t know who’s…but that is what got me turned on to this style / technology…..forget the flashlight!!!!. Flashlight has a single source of light that “shadows” your close up work. The “bar” of light, is great, not shadows…this is more like a “fan” of light…you still have to point the fan, but it is not an issue. This really improves both close up INSPECTION….when you are trying to look and figure out what is wrong, and close up WORKING…when your hands are in front of you, and with an old flashlight would be creating shadows on your close up task work and requiring constant adjustments point on your work. Ohhh…did I say this is good for close up task work?

Black and Decker got this one right…even the “low power battery”…as pointed out in the negatives reviews. I was pissed when I pick this up at home after purchasing it…it was so light I knew before turning it on it was a cheepo commodity product…BUT BUT…it does hold a charge for a “Saturday” task (4 hrs very bright)….so they got it right….so keep it plugged in. If you value the “6 bar”, and need more time, get a 120 volt….this one is light (small battery), fast to point, on point. I am not fond of Black and Dekcher, but this product rocks! By the way, this is the first review I have done on any product ever…the only reason I am typing now is I am so amazed at the 6′ bar light…and forget this one to “walk your dog” at night….or for the family during a hurricane as the other reviews said…get a flashlight for that….this is 12-24″ task light and is instant addiction….don’t know how I lived without one in the past.

Bottom line: This should sit next to your rechargable flashlight…the light bar and the flashlight….different tools…you will use the light bar more.
